SERVICES
CATARACT CARE AND SURGERY
Cataracts can cause gradual vision changes, making daily tasks more difficult. I provide assessment and management of cataracts, including surgical options when necessary. My focus is on guiding patients through the process with careful evaluation and appropriate treatment tailored to their specific needs. If you have been diagnosed with cataracts or are experiencing changes in vision, I am available to assist with your care.
GLAUCOMA MANAGEMENT
Glaucoma is a condition that can lead to gradual vision loss if not detected and managed early. I provide careful assessment and ongoing management of glaucoma, with a focus on monitoring intraocular pressure and preserving visual function. Treatment plans may include medical, laser, or surgical options, depending on individual needs. If you have been diagnosed with glaucoma or are at risk, I am here to support you with appropriate care and regular follow-up.
MEDICAL RETINA
Medical retina focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the back of the eye, including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and retinal vein occlusions. Care involves detailed imaging and tailored management plans, which may include injections, laser therapy, or observation. If you are experiencing changes in vision or have been referred for retinal assessment, I provide careful evaluation and evidence-based treatment to help preserve your vision.
CORNEA AND EXTERNAL EYE DISEASE
The cornea and external structures of the eye play a vital role in maintaining clear vision and eye health. Conditions such as keratoconus, corneal infections, and dry eye disease require careful evaluation and tailored treatment. I provide comprehensive care for these and other corneal disorders, using diagnostic tools to guide management strategies. If you are experiencing symptoms like discomfort, redness, or changes in vision, I am available to assist with appropriate assessment and care.
MORE ABOUT DR CRAIG ANDERSON
I completed my undergraduate medical degree at Stellenbosch University, followed by my internship at Pietermaritzburg Hospital Complex and community service at Potchefstroom Hospital - where I started my journey in Ophthalmology. After joining St John Eye Hospital as a Medical Officer in 2018 I worked for a year and then joined the training program.
I completed my specialist training in Ophthalmology at the end of 2022 at the University of the Witwatersrand: Division of Ophthalmology, working at St John Eye Hospital, Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and Helen Joseph Hospital where I developed a strong foundation in the field.
In 2022, I was fortunate to receive the Justin van Selm Medal in the Fellowship Examination of the College of Ophthalmologists of South Africa (awarded to outstanding candidates) and the Eli Dahan Award for Best Registrar in the Wits Division of Ophthalmology. I am also involved in volunteer cataract work across South Africa, contributing to efforts to improve access to eye care in underserved communities.
Outside of work, I enjoy trail running, music, cookery and reading, and I value spending time with my wife and daughter. Coming from a family of Ophthalmologists, with both my father and brother in the profession, I’ve been inspired by their commitment to patient care.
